A $450 Ouch

THANKFULLY MY COLD NEVER DEVELOPED, AND I WAS ABLE TO GO OUT THIS AFTERNOON AND PAY MY BILL FOR SOME DENTAL WORK I'D HAD DONE.
I PAID IN CASH, TO AVOID THEIR 2% SURCHARGE ON CARD PAYMENTS.
SADLY, MY FAVOURITE BOOKSHOP (PAPERPLUS ROTOTUNA) PERMANENTLY CLOSES ITS DOORS TOMORROW (THEY COULDN'T GET A RENEWAL ON THEIR LEASE).
I BOUGHT A LAST PUZZLE BOOK AND TOLD THEM THEY'D BE MISSED.
SOMETIMES IT SEEMS EVERYTHING IS CHANGING, AND USUALLY NOT FOR THE BETTER - MAYBE I'M GETTING OLD 😁

  1. 2% surcharge?? I thought NZ paid everything by card. Here we are encouraged to use cards. Mind you, it's to try and stop tax evasion here 😁

  2. With shops struggling to compete with online sales over here shop building owners are only too happy to have someone occupying their premises. Pity to lose a valuable local asset. Worse as we age and don't want to drive miles further (or worse sit at home alone waiting for a delivery....)

  3. I had to look up Pixel Puzzles as I'm not sure they are a thing here although maybe I've just not come across them.
They sound too complicated for me!
We do have Puzzler but it has crosswords, jigwords, and all sorts of other word and number puzzles

  4. I think the changes happen so fast these days, I don't mind change, but blink and so much disappears.

  5. I hear you about avoiding surcharges when paying bills - I use my debit card when credit card surcharges are in place.... which means I have to remember my PIN... my dental bills are astronomical at the moment as I am playing catch up, having not been for nearly a decade - not to be recommended.
Yes change seems to be part of daily life now, where once life was so predicable...

  6. I hate that you are losing your bookshop! Stores are allowed to charge us the surcharge here, too. So far I have only seen where they do a time or two. I hope it doesn't change.

  7. $450 bill is pretty cheap for any kind of dental work here. We too have surcharges on credit cards.

  8. Funny (not ha ha) about that surcharge, not every business I've seen has it, only a few as a charge for paying with credit cards, I get why I just thought they only did that on public holidays but it looks like it's happening more and more.

  9. You have such pretty money. Dental bills are expensive here! The banks make all the money on credit cards...here they charge the merchant a percentage, and hope that we don't pay our entire bill every month ( we do) and we get a little back 3% that we can use for our bill or cash it out:)
