Rainbows on my Roof

I love rainbows.  Full ones, half ones, double ones.  Even the little mini ones that come off the crystals hanging in my window.

When I woke this morning, I could see the sun shining through the chinks in the curtain so I opened the curtains up to let the sunshine in, and my crystals sent gorgeous little rainbows skittering across the ceiling.

I jumped back into bed (it was cold!) and lay there admiring them.  What a great start to the day.

As children we were taught that ROYGBIV gave you all the colours of the rainbow.  I never could see any difference, when looking at a rainbow, between indigo and violet.  All the other colours are quite distinct in a clear rainbow, but to me the blue always seemed to go straight into violet.

And then, not so long ago, I was reading that there are actually only six colours in a rainbow – red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.  The indigo was added to make seven colours, as men in the Victorian age were very much stuck on seven being a complete number in the Bible.  As the rainbow was created by God, it obviously had to be complete and therefore had to have seven colours.

I have no idea if this is actually correct or not, but it makes me feel better about never seeing indigo in a rainbow!

May all your thoughts be as cheerful as a rainbow 😊

Margaret.

A Lazy Day

I’ve had a bit of a lazy day today.  When I woke this morning it was pouring down with rain so I did the most sensible thing possible and rolled over and went back to sleep!

The showers have continued all day but it has not been too cold and we have had some sunshine.  We have even seen two beautiful full rainbows, with one of them having a bit of a shadow rainbow beside it.  It has been quite a while since I last saw a full rainbow.

Grand-daughter is away at her mother’s this weekend and son was working, so I simply pottered around and quietly cleaned up the kitchen and my room.

I messaged with a family member who was buying a dehumidifier to help her dry clothes – driers are so expensive now, and a dehumidifier and a clothes horse work well in a closed room.

Then, this afternoon, I sat by the fire and watched our local rugby team, the Chiefs, playing the Highlanders in Christchurch.  We lost – again L

Conditions for the game were wet and cold, and steam was rising off the scrums, but I will spare you all the photos of the hot sweaty bodies in rugby shorts!

Tomorrow, I will try and be more energetic J

Crystal Rainbows

At 11.59pm tonight we will move out of the very restrictive Level 4 lock-down into the restrictive Level 3 lock-down.   This will allow many people to return to work (under strict conditions), but for myself it will make little difference.

We are to stay in Level 3 for two weeks and then hopefully reduce to Level 2, at which stage I will be ready to head out to the shops again!

This morning, on the spur of the moment, I decided to change my bedroom around.  I didn’t quite get it finished but am happy with the results so far.

The day began with heavy fog but that cleared off mid-morning and we had a beautiful sunny day to enjoy.  I have a large crystal “star” (for lack of a better word) that I placed on the windowsill and it filled my room with rainbows.

Now we have a few flowers growing in the garden, I thought it might be nice to pick some occasionally – so today I cut a stem of stock to prettify my bedroom a little.

It was good moving things around – I found several Dust Bunnies (those little balls of fluff that accumulate in dark corners) and a couple of Hiding Spiders, so they have both been dealt with now.

All in all, it has been quite a successful day J
