Another Apron

Finally, I have finished sewing up another apron made from the fabric of a duvet cover I found in a charity shop. 

It might take me weeks, but I only stitch for short periods at a time and usually not every day.

The main thing is I enjoy the slow pace of hand-stitching and not having any pressure to finish something. 

I continue to declutter a little each day, and unearthed my mother's old china pincushion (the pins go in the back).  

I remember this frog from my girlhood and it has always intrigued me.

It is going to live in my own sewing box now.

Finished Apron

We had another good frost this morning, accompanied by a thick fog.

The sun finally broke through about 11 o'clock, and I took advantage of it by finishing the sewing on my apron.

This is the first time I have sewn a whole garment by hand.

Mittens enjoys keeping me company while I stitch.

Last night we watched rugby - the All Blacks just managed to beat England (16-15).

The game began with the All Blacks doing their traditional haka.

The haka is a form of dance that was originally designed by Maori to put fear into the hearts of their opponents.  

I'm not sure if it still does that, but it is certainly exciting to watch.

Our first jonquil has burst into flower.

Its flowering is a gentle reminder that winter will pass and spring will come again.

Mother's Day

 

Our family has never made a big deal about Mother’s Day (or Father’s Day either, for that matter), and we certainly have never spent large amounts of money because of it.

Rather, we offer the recipient a quiet acknowledgment of appreciation with a quick hug and maybe a meal.

Today, Son made pikelets for our lunch (to have with jam and whipped cream) and Younger Son brought over some banana and caramel muffins he had made.  Both pikelets and muffins were delicious.

While he was here, Younger Son kindly put together my flat-pack sewing table and chair – with no swearing!  He took his time and read the instructions and everything went together flawlessly.

The table is the perfect size for my little sewing machine, and all I have to do now is decide what I am going to sew first.
