Mother's Day

Our family has never made a big deal about Mother’s Day (or Father’s Day either, for that matter), and we certainly have never spent large amounts of money because of it.

Rather, we offer the recipient a quiet acknowledgment of appreciation with a quick hug and maybe a meal.

Today, Son made pikelets for our lunch (to have with jam and whipped cream) and Younger Son brought over some banana and caramel muffins he had made.  Both pikelets and muffins were delicious.

While he was here, Younger Son kindly put together my flat-pack sewing table and chair – with no swearing!  He took his time and read the instructions and everything went together flawlessly.

The table is the perfect size for my little sewing machine, and all I have to do now is decide what I am going to sew first.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the lovely mothers out there.  I hope you all have a great day 😊

Margaret.

  1. Happy Mothers Day to you too! How nice that your son was able to put the sewing table together with not too much trouble and now you're all set for a winter of sewing.
I've never heard of pikelets so I looked them up (only to find they're very similar to our pancakes). The muffins sound good too.

  2. We also have never made a big 'thing' - it's really only cards here... sounds as though you have had a wonderful day with your sons, and the table and chair look all ready for you to start your next project.
    Blessings

  4. Indeed Mother's Day as celebrsted in our family. Dad insisted we should respect and honour (and be grateful to) our Mum everyday. Your ironing board cover is interesting!

  6. Happy Mother day to you, I am the same only wanting cards, never gifts, you can't show anyone how much you love them on just one day.

  7. Our girls came over, a day early here, and we had burgers off the grill which is one of my favorite meals.

  8. I never 'demanded' a big deal be made out of all these "Days" either. ((Sushhhh... But.... Sometimes I wonder if all the Fuss & Flowers, which many bloggers post about, are because the children were brought up, knowing MoM would have a fitttttttttttt, if she didn't get "Mother's Day Stufffff." -Evil Grinnnnn-))

Somehow, I thought you would celebrate 'Mothering Sunday' instead of 'Mother's Day.' But I guess not. :-)

    1. I don't know anyone here who observes Mothering Sunday and I never have. Mother's Day is a huge commercial day - we have been bombarded with ads for the last couple of weeks to buy really expensive stuff on this day (forget about flowers and chocolates, they don't cost enough!).

  10. Yummy food and a sewing table set up...ideal for Mothers' Day! I had to look up pikelets (there goes that distance "thing" again) but they look terrific, and topped with jam and whipped cream! Yes, I'll be looking for a recipe soon. Hope it's a good week, Mary

  11. No swearing. Aha. That´s why it all landed over here! ;-) - See tomorrow, if you like...
Had no time for sewing, bummer. And today was skirt weather, too!
I miss my Mum... I thought of her.
