Lots of fruit and vegetables appear in all the "sensible" diets I've looked at, so that is what made up the bulk of my grocery shop today.
Instead of my usual lunchtime sandwiches, I made a salad with lettuce, an orange, fresh dates, cucumber, garden mint, smoked gouda cheese, and homemade mayonnaise.
I had some steamed kumara (sweet potato) with it. It made a delicious meal.
I've struggled previously with changing what I normally eat - habits are strong things - but I am hopeful of achieving my goals this time.

Hi Margaret- I'm eating soft foods at present as I've had 11 teeth removed and await the fitting of a bottom plate- in a bit of pain these last few days though soon that'l be over. Glad your having a healthy diet. KEV.
ReplyDeleteOh, Kev, I remember what that is like. Once you heal up you will be one happy chappy - I have never regretted having my troublesome teeth removed :)
DeleteVery healthy looking fresh produce
ReplyDeleteWith meals like that you should have little trouble maintaining intrrest in going on. Good luck annd I really hope you fall in love with new habits.
ReplyDeleteoh I understand habits. Your food looks really good but my weakness is bread and that's what tends to put on weight with me so I try to avoid it.
ReplyDeleteStick with it Margaret. Your food haul looks lovely. I spy an avocado, my favourite. Try drizzling your meals with a splash of toasted sesame seed oil. Deeeelishus.
ReplyDeleteGood uck with the change. I made mayonaise yesterday. Ive made it before and not liked my own but this batch was delcious. Lotos of hot mustard powder to give it a wee kick
ReplyDeleteI wish you well in your diet plan. Always remember if you eat the old way for a meal or a day, you can start right back on your healthier eating plan.
ReplyDeleteYour lunch looks yummy. Good luck with your new diet. And there's nothing wrong with having a hearty sandwich once in a while!
ReplyDeleteLooks good!
ReplyDeleteLunch looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI wish you a successful regime and hope that you enjoy it. That's my kind of food!
ReplyDeleteThe produce looks great. For me, the way I cook them makes all the difference. Roasting is a favourite these days.
ReplyDeleteYour lunch looks so tasty. I hope you can figure out what's best for you to eat to keep healthy. It's an ongoing battle as we get older ( and in my case, lazier. I'm really tired of preparing meals :(. GM
ReplyDeleteThat lunch looks delicious - I do love sweet potatoes. It is so hard to - at least for me - to eat as I should. Old habits are so hard to break. You gave me a little nudge Margaret - I’ll try to eat better as well 😊
ReplyDeleteA lovely looking lunch, Margaret - I find having my main meal at midday helps me with weight control. Living with family now doesn't always help that plan :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine
I share your problem with sticking to 'good habits' - I've found that I've more chance if I banish "bad foods" from the house, and keep a box of prepared salad in the fridge so I never get hungry. I also stopped using mayonnaise and found a couple of low cal oil and vinegar options. The one I like most is a Raspberry vinaigrette - the little bit of sweetness makes all the difference. It's a constant battle though, isn't it!
ReplyDeleteYou are a stronger person than me! While I like some fruits and veggies, I do not think I could totally commit to them!
ReplyDeleteMe neither - I love my meat too much! I am just cutting down on the meat, cutting way down on the bread stuff, and increasing my fruits and veggies. So far so good :)
DeleteLove baked sweet potatoes, no worries about making changes. As long as you keep trying!
