One of them has its own stand - "Lilliput Maori Place Names," published in 1962 as a miniature version of an existing book.
Inside, is an inscription that reads "To wish you a very happy time in your new home. Thankyou for everything - I shall miss you dreadfully. Purrs from Ginger." Presumably, Ginger was a kitty cat.
The second is similar. It is called "Reeds Lilliput Dictionary - Maori English - English Maori," and was published in 1960. No inscription in this one though.
My favourite of the three little books would have to be this one. It is the well-known "A Christmas Carol" and carries a date of 1906.
It is bound in soft leather and even has small illustrations in it.
The books are too tiny for a bookcase, so have their home among other ornaments within my display cabinet.

This month’s header photo is a 2012 photograph of the
grandiose Dunedin Railway Station.
Dating back to 1906, it features a facade of black basalt stone with facings
of white Oamaru limestone. The inside,
open to the public, is just as magnificent and well worth a visit if you are in
the area.
I have the first two but not the lovely old one. (or had as I haven't seen them for ages. They may have vanishedin a move).
ReplyDeleteYour books are precious, and should be cherished. I love your header photo's showing places I am unlikely to ever visit.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely little books, especially the last. Tiny treasures
ReplyDeleteThere's something so lovely about miniature books - people must have had better eyesight. I have just one - a tiny bible
ReplyDeleteSo interesting! That last one looks like a very special collectors item!
ReplyDeleteWhat cute little books! I will never get to New Zealand so I always enjoy seeing your photos!
ReplyDeleteWhat special treasures. Do you know if your family moved house - could that account for the inscription in the book?
ReplyDeleteThose tiny books are real treasures!! I like your November header.

Love those tiny books…treasures!
ReplyDeleteI so love those little books! They are wonderful. And I do love the header photo...it sure is a grand railway station!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful picture of the Dunedin Railway Station. For many years it was covered in white plastic and scaffolding, but the restoration is now complete and it looks even more spectacular. Very fond memories of travelling from there as a child/teenager.
ReplyDeleteWhat exquisite books Margaret - they are real little treasures....
ReplyDeleteAs is that railway station - it's magnificent isn't it!!
Blessings
