Olive Tree Cafe

My sister-and-law and I went out to lunch together today and then had a lovely afternoon back at her place, chatting about the world and making everything as it should be (according to us!).

We went to The Olive Tree Café, a busy little place with a constant stream of customers.  Most of the food is gluten-free, which perhaps explains why my Savoury Muffin was so crumbly (but still delicious).

I had a little Orange Almond Cake afterwards, which I didn’t need, and an Iced Chocolate to drink (which I also didn’t need!), but it was all very enjoyable.

Our weather continues to be hot in the afternoons and the long-term forecast is we can expect it to remain like this for a few more weeks yet.  At least most nights are a little cooler, though, and it is possible to sleep a bit better.

I found some online jigsaw puzzles at jigsawplanet.com and have been having fun doing some of them.

Did you know that jigsaw puzzles help to keep your mind active and lowers the chance of you developing dementia?

Yay for jigsaw puzzles 😊

Margaret.

  1. That's right, all kind of games are very good for the mind, they help keep us sharp.
As for your yummy treats, well it's just fun to indulge in a sweet treat now and then, I personally think that's good for us, too :)

  2. What a lovely treat you had with your SIL. Your savoury muffin and the Orange Almond cake look delicious. If I figure out my little cupcake maker I'll have to try some similar recipes.

  3. What a lovely day you describe. I hope soon we will be able to just that though there won't be scones to have with the chocolate.

  4. Have you started playing Wordle yet, we also love Worgle and Nerdle, all played on our phones, I don't like games, but these keep your mind sharp.

    1. I haven't heard of those last two games so will have to look them up. They certainly have intriguing names! :)

Oh, thank you for another excuse to do those online jigsaws ;-)
When I broke my foot and could go nowhere I got hooked to this. You can choose the pattern, too.

    2. I just went to that site and it took me 24 minutes 18 seconds to complete the puzzle, average time is 7 minutes and some seconds. Clearly I am out of practise.

  6. The food looks delicious! I love jigsaw puzzles. I have worked a lot at jigsaw explorer. I cannot think if I have worked them at jigsaw planet or not. I have worked them several places.

  7. A Gluten Free Cafe!!!!!!! Delightful!!!!!

We have one, in another town, to which we went last summer. Need to go again, now that the weather is not going to have a snow/ice storm momentarily. :-)

    Gentle hugs,

  8. Yay indeed! We should be able to enjoy an occasional meal out with friends or family totally guilt free when it comes to calories. That’s my idea these days anyway!

    1. Agreed, Marie. At our age now I am sure we can do a little more of what we 'want' instead of always what we 'need' - and the secret is not overdoing it :)

  9. Don't you love a good cafe? What makes a good cafe? Food, drinks, the furniture, good natural lighting, the view, the staff, ....how do some cafes get the right combination of je ne sais pas to create that perfect ambience, and others miss by a hair breadth which might as well be a mile?

  10. My cousin from Whanganui told me that they had a jigsaw competition as part of their city's Senior Games. I thought it was a brilliant idea. Everybody had their own table in a big hall and the same jigsaw to complete. The first to complete the jigsaw was the winner.

  12. I prefer gluten free as well but sometimes the food is a bit tasteless, I would try a scone however, they look good.

  13. Definitely yay for puzzles! Yes, GF food does tend to crumble more easily (I have a GF family member.) but it also can be rather delicious too. How lovely to be able spend time with your sister.
    Stay safe
