What an horrendous tragedy the Australian bushfires are
becoming. So many people losing their
homes, too many people losing their lives, and countless more people losing
their livelihoods.
It is all very sad.
We have several family members living in Australia. I know some have been affected by smoke and
ash, but thankfully (as far as I am aware) they are still alright. I feel for those whose loved ones are more
directly involved.
We have been having some stunning sunsets and sunrises. I have always enjoyed these natural displays
of colour, but knowing they are the result of tragic circumstances makes
viewing them a sober experience.
This is a photo of Lake Whakatipu. Queenstown is built on the shores of this beautiful
lake, but yesterday it must have looked very different. On our television news last night they showed
pictures of the thick smokey haze covering Queenstown. It was so bad that many thought it had been
caused by local fires.
The horror just gets worse everyday.
ReplyDeleteThe wildfires in Australia represent one of the greatest tragedies of recent years, both in terms of the devastation to humans and the terrible loss of wildlife and its habitat. Two days ago here it was ten degrees and the air was completely saturated. If only we could export weather like that to Australia for a couple of days, what a difference that would make.
ReplyDeleteSo sad. My heart breaks for those who have lost their homes, loved ones and livelihoods.
ReplyDeleteDitto!
DeleteIt truly is a sad event affecting so many people. The effects on the whole country is reminiscent of some old sci-fi movies.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to see you at 'My Corner of the World'!
My Corner of the World
The fires in Australia are scary. Such a tragedy on so many levels. We are running out of time with the environment I fear.
ReplyDeleteThe horror of the fire situation is hard to watch on the news. It just keeps on with no respite in sight. How serene your lake looked. Like David said, if only we could send them all the rain and cool temps we have right now.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to them...how scary that must be to live through...or live close to, either.
