Two Amazing Champions

What a way to spend a morning!

For just over 4 hours, Son and I watched a live tennis quarterfinal played out in the French Open at Roland-Garros stadium in Paris.

I am not a big tennis follower, but this game had me sitting on the edge of my chair as it was so exciting.

World ranking #1, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal (ranked #5 in the world), both played an excellent game, and were so evenly matched that it was impossible to pick who might win.

In the end, it was Rafael Nadal who took the honours from this fiercely fought match, and his smile says it all.

This will be the fifteenth time that Rafael Nadal has reached a semi-final at Roland-Garros.  He already has ten French Open wins under his belt – I wonder if he will end up making it eleven?

We have very blustery weather here today and had some exceptionally heavy rain during the night.  But it is not cold and we are quite snug here at home.

Hope everyone is having a great week 😊

Margaret.

HEADER PHOTO FOR JUNE 2022

A sunny June day at the foot of Mount Maunganui near Tauranga.

The stone jetty in the middle foreground is all that remains of a structure built in 1888-1889 to cater for picnickers arriving from Tauranga – it was needed so that the long dresses of the ladies would no longer get wet when disembarking!

  1. Oh, I wish I had been able to watch that game, Margaret. I think that is the broadest smile I've ever seen from Nadal. I've always admired how he just never gives up. We've had heavy rain overnight, too but today is calm and mild. Love your new header!

  2. I like your June header. Nice that you're snug in your home and can sit and watch the rain and wind. We had sunshine and I fear I got a bit too much sun on my face :(

  3. We were immediately drawn to your new header, but boats do that in this household.

  4. Darn I wish we could get the French open live. What a match alright. So glad to hear that Raffa won.

  5. Nadal has 21 grand slam wins, Djokovic has 20, so it was a really important match, if Nadal wins he will be in front by 2 wins, there is no-one else close to this target. I very much enjoy watching Nadal, Djokovic is too cold, Nadal wears his heart for everyone to see.

  6. It seems to me, silly naturalist that I am, that four hours spent outdoors would be far more agreeable than four hours watching TV, whatever the topic.

  7. The French Open brings back memories of my childhood, being up at my dad's place and going to our neighbors to watch it.

  8. Can’t you just picture those long dresses as the ladies disembarked?

    1. We don't get much sport on free tv - I'm happy that Son loves his sport and so he subscribes to SkySport and we get to see most things (at least the things he loves!)

  10. I love it, that you two enjoy these sport on tv games. Fun to root for someone!!!

Pardon if I get the following wrong........ New Zealand is not part of the Commonwealth, but the Queen is still....... something. So I wonder.... Are you at all excited about the Jubilee?

I'm American and I am. :-) I love the fashions. I admire the Royals, who do-their-jobs. The longevity of the Queen is to be admired.

Being American, I do not fully understand the pull of a/the Royal Family. I can try to empathize, why the British people do, though. I do not bow to any person, no matter what they represent. But if people of countries, which have Royalty wish to, that is their choice.

And where else is there such a Real Life Saga???? The Good... The Bad... The Beautiful... Those who do their Jobs.... Those who do not do their Jobs... Those who are a disgrace to The Family.... Those who turn their backs on The Family.... But still want to be part of it.... All, with a History, going back centuries!!!

Can't beat all that, for Drama. :-)

    Gentle hugs

    1. New Zealand is still part of the Commonwealth and The Queen is our Head of State. It is like an honorary position as she holds no power here, but it stops our politicians from getting big heads and thinking they can be our Ultimate Leader!

  11. Wow I bet that was a wonderful match to watch. I remember sitting watching a Wimbledon match as a child, we did not have a TV so I was always fascinated whenever I was at a house with it on. We were at a family party, a Great Aunt was hosting, it was all the elderly men who were watching the match it was in black and white. I remember sitting there for a good hour watching the match, it was the first time I had ever watched tennis in my life. Those elderly relatives patiently answered all my questions, and there were many!

  12. What a fabulous match to watch Margaret - and a great occupation on a wet and overcast morning - we have also had some pretty heavy rainfalls over the past couple of days - things are getting a bit soggy underfoot.

  13. Love the new banner.
Tennis... I always have to think of Boris Becker - he was on TV back then all the time, as the youngest or one of the youngest winner.
Now he is back, with one scandal after the next.
I hope Rafael Nadal makes better choices (and helps you enjoy some more time like that :-).
Here it´s still way too cold for June, only 13C...

  15. I was sitting here looking at your new header picture. It's beautiful. That blue blue water. I've never cared for tennis. I do love your TV set up. So much nicer that one of those giant screens that looks like a drive-in theater inside the living room. :)

  16. I would have fallen asleep during tennis...same with golf, etc...I find most sports boring well except for Ice Hockey and i have been known to take a short nap then! :)

  17. I think I have a photo of that jetty somewhere from when we lived there. Speaking of sports I'm waiting for when the rugby comes back on in particular the international matches.
