School Holidays

The day was cloudy but fine, so I thought I would go for a walk down by the Lake.
I forgot schools are on holiday for two weeks, and it is a popular destination for anyone wanting to get the kids outdoors.  I was lucky to find a park.

A small stand of young kowhai trees were flowering.

There were pukekos feeding down beside the lake edge.

And some other pukekos had retreated into a tree, presumably to avoid the crowds.

The pathway around the Lake is well-formed, making it easy for parents with strollers, children on push bikes, or folk in wheelchairs.

I enjoyed my wandering and the opportunity to do a little people-watching.

HEADER PHOTO FOR OCTOBER 2024
This photo is of Matakana Island in the Bay of Plenty.  It was taken in 2008 from the top of Mount Maunganui, back when I was able to climb it.

  1. What an excellent park to go to. I want to look at photos on computer...the flowering trees look very interesting.

  2. I like your October header. People watching can be very interesting but hordes of school-age kids can make one wish we'd waited until school was back in session lol.

  3. I am back...I wanted to see those flowers and your header photo on my computer. Those flowers are so interesting. If I can hold the thought, I am going to google that tree and see more about it.

I so love your photo...banner/header whatever the correct term is. I would love to have a chance to sit on that bench.

    1. I think that particular kowhai is Sophora tetraptera - it is a native of New Zealand and our unofficial national flower (according to the Department of Conservation).
I have sat on that bench several times (not for a few years now!) - it can get very windy sometimes, but the view is always gorgeous :)
