Pottering in the Garden

It has been another sunny day here today.   Much too nice to stay indoors, so I spent the morning pottering around outside in the garden.

The weeding has been done, the paths have been swept, flowers have been dead-headed, peas have been sown – and I’ve sat and contemplated life while sipping my tea and soaking up the sunshine!

Autumn sunshine out on the farm

Son has been cleaning up the tree prunings he made recently.  They have now lost their leaves and I grabbed some of the twigs to make a sort of fence to give my peas something to climb up.

If the peas ever grow, that is.  The last lot I sowed had a very poor germination, so hopefully the ones I have just sown will be better.

My pea fence

I have been sitting on the bed this afternoon with Mittens the Cat for company.  The cat has been sleeping, and I have been working on my Family History book.

It is son’s turn to cook dinner tonight so I am feeling quite lazy J

Hope you day goes well,
Margaret.

  1. I also spent a good part of the day hoeing out weeds since tomorrow is supposed to be sunny again and hopefully the weeds will fry in the sun. Last weeks rain really brought a lot of growth both in the garden and the weeds. Most of the weeds were too tiny to pull so I hoed.

    1. I'm not as industrious as you - I ignore the weeds until they are big enough to pull out. Sometimes they get very big! LOL

  3. Hope your peas grow, I had a few failures this spring, mainly marigolds and sweet peas.

  4. I hope that you will have a bumper crop of peas. Some time ago you planned to embark on a whole lifestyle modification, with "sensible" eating, portion control, keeping a journal, and so on, and if my memory serves me well had intended to share this journey, and I was looking forward to seeing what I could learn from it. Did this all fall by the wayside? Do you still plan to share?

    1. Funny you should ask about this David, as I’ve been thinking about it again this last week. I did post how I was changing things last January (see "Easier Said Than Done"), but that all fell apart soon afterwards. This year has been rather strange – we have had all the Covid performance but I have personally also been dealing with a lot of delayed grief, and being concerned with myself was just another pressure I didn’t need. But things appear to be settling down now (on both counts) and I really do want to lose weight. Watch this space (as they say!), as maybe it is time for me to look at things again.

  5. Hello, Sounds like a nice day. Love the view of the farm land. My hubby does the weeding. The fence for your peas is a great idea. Take care and have a great day!

  8. How wonderful you have someone to share the cooking. And I don't really mind cooking if someone is hungry and will eat or will request something. Roger always liked everything till his stroke, and now, he just likes what isn't good for him. Seriously. But I don't fuss because that is one of the few things he enjoys.

I hope your peas do better this time around.

  9. Now I love that pea fence Margaret! We use old bed boards that look like crisscrossed wood for our peas :) And just like Iris, I would super love to know about your Family History book :)
