Every year my mother would take the four of us children to
the beach for two weeks of holiday (my father had to stay home and milk the
cows).
We always stayed at this camping ground in Tauranga.
The children would play in the sand, go swimming, play at
the nearby playground, or generally just get up to mischief around the
camp. The adults would congregate
beneath the umbrellas!
This photo brought back memories as I looked at the clothes
(the photo is of me and my three younger brothers). My mother used to make nearly all of our
clothing herself.
We used to stay in one of the camp cabins. I remember it had a pay-as-you-go electricity
meter, which always seemed to run out in the middle of cooking dinner.
I was about ten years old in this photo.
This camping ground has now vanished and been replaced with
luxury townhouses. One thing that never
changes in this world is change!
Stay happy J
Margaret.

Lovely memories.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, these are very precious memories! I love how vividly you took us to the beach with your brothers! You all are so adorable, looking at your photos makes wanna pinch the cheeks of your brother, so cute! It's amazing that you guys camp for two weeks! That would be loads of fun and a great time to make memories with other friends that camp with you. Those beach houses look very nice too and the pay as you go electricity meter is something new to my knowing.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Margaret for sharing your beautiful memories to Timeless Thursdays. I am very happy to see old photographs so much and much more to hear the stories about them. Hope you Thursday is going well there in NZ!

Cute photos and wow! Your mother was great at making clothes.
ReplyDeleteSeesh, how did you cope - I have ONE little Brother and that was hard already ;-)
It is. In this crisis he calls me daily and talks, talks, talks! Two young kids at home drive him nuts.
I think we need, as you in the pic, laugh it to over and done with it!
Our Mum also went with us to the sea, Dad stayed home, working.
Sad when such places go to the super-rich.
Let´s be happy for the memories, Ixx
You're really lucky to still keep a good family photo, friend. Then upload and tell it here ..., it makes us feel happy to see the familiarity of your family.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose!
ReplyDeleteHello, these are wonderful family photos and memories. My mother used to make dresses for me and my sister. The beach houses are cute! Enjoy your day, have a great weekend ahead.
ReplyDeleteOh I love those photos. Not surprised the camping grounds have disappeared . That is a wonderful spot just by the water. Lovely memories
ReplyDeleteThree brothers! When I was young I thought one was enough. Lol. You always had a buddy I imagine.
ReplyDeleteOh, I so enjoyed seeing these. My mom made my clothes, too. Made all us girls...not sure if she made any for the boys when they were young or not. But mine were almost all homemade all through school...though by the time I graduated, I was making some of them myself.
ReplyDeleteWonderful memories for sure. My Mum used to make most of our clothes as well, and I in turn made most of my son's when he was a baby and toddler. Happy days.
ReplyDeleteLovely memories and great old black-and-white photos.
ReplyDeleteWhere in Tauranga is that? We lived at the Mount for 3 years.
ReplyDeleteSixth Avenue, on the Harbour. It was just along from Memorial Park - all that area used to be covered with tents and caravans, then the swimming pool and skating rink were built. The fountain was added - it had coloured water at night time! And there was always a playground - it got extended a lot over the years. There are now town houses where the camp-proper used to be.
DeleteI too have memories of holidays in holiday homes with my own children.. your 10 year old pic clothes looked like clothes I used to wear, but I think I m years older than you. Happy memories, I loved it when my children were young.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness you look exactly like me when I was 10 years old! My mother made all my clothes too. Do people make clothes for their children any more?
ReplyDeleteLovely to see these photographs, what wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Wonderful pictures and memories. I know it was a lot more fun at the camping ground than the so called luxury townhomes. I like the black and white photos too.
ReplyDeleteWhat great old photos! My Mom sewed clothing for us also, can you imagine doing that...I couldn't as I am a horrid seamstress:)
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely memories you must have and how nice to have all those photos! My mother used to make all our clothes, too! :)
