Planning A Trip

Now I am feeling so much better, my thoughts have been turning towards doing another road trip.  Only a small one, lasting eight days, down around the bottom of the South Island.

I did an extensive tour of the South Island in 2019 but there were still a few places I didn’t get to see, the chief one being Milford Sound.  That has been on my bucket list for a long time.

Castle Hill in the Southern Alps

A family member has said they will do the trip with me, which will mean we can share driving – and travelling with someone else is always more fun than being by yourself.

Waikawa Bay, Picton

We are planning on going in the middle of November, so not that far away.  The itinerary is almost finalised and our flights and rental car have been booked.

Clock tower at Hokitika, West Coast

I am feeling quite excited 😊

Margaret.

All the above photos were taken on my 2019 South Island trip

HEADER PHOTO FOR SEPTEMBER 2022

This month’s photo is titled Punting On The River Avon In Christchurch.  Not something I have done, but I have enjoyed watching others doing it.  Photo taken in autumn 2019.

  4. What a wonderful trip you will have - I did that by bus last year, and in October and friend and I are doing the northern half of the South Is by bus. I loved the Milford Sound trip - the drive in and out is a tough one though. If you have time on that trip, have a stop at the Mirror Lakes - they are amazing, and the viewing platform is not far off the road

  5. What great photos... I'm looking forward to your trip and I wish you and your friends a lot of joy.
The last photo with the barge looks like it's around the corner from me... there is the Spreewald with a large number of barges and waterways.
    Many greetings to you. Viola

To a new trip, and with company - and Spring then, yippeee (to you, not me, it´ll be grey and cold and nasty here - please share pics to warm me up!).
We did such tours on river Oker - even one where we were told crime stories - company event, I had to go home alone in the dark through the park... eeeek. As you can see, no one killed me ;-)

    1. That sounds as bad as the scary stories that used to get told around the camp fire - guaranteed to give you nightmares!

  14. Visited the South Island with my then 17 year old son in 2019 (From Melbourne). Best holiday! Punting in Christchurch was a hilarious highlight as we couldn't steer straight. Ended up in the bank several times due to laughing so much. Enjoy your trip.
