The Joy Of Blogging

I have just realized that I have now been blogging for one whole year!  I began on 1 October 2019 and the year seems to have slipped by rather fast.

I have thoroughly enjoyed writing my blog, and even more have enjoyed following others on their blogs.  I liken it a little to having modern-age penfriends, as I feel I have got to know so many lovely people through this medium.

Another photo of the pretty spring-flowering kowhai tree that I featured in my first blog.

I am happy to report today that my shingles are settling down (thanks, I believe, to the vaccine) and looking well on the way to vanishing back where they came from.

The itinerary for our week’s road trip (in two weeks’ time) is now finalized and I am giving my packing list more attention.  My aim is to pack enough clothes to feel comfortable but not so many that I take up too much room in the car boot (trunk).  With four of us in the one car, our luggage will need careful packing skills from my brother – but with three women in the car he might have his job cut out for him!

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable and happy week,

Margaret 😊

  1. Margaret, I'm a New Zealander too, and I find I pack far too many clothes for trips away. Like four seasons worth! But Spring is a particularly variable season here, isn't it. Enjoy your trip.

    1. I try to do layer clothing but I'm not always that successful. You do sort of need to take something for every type of weather!

  4. I am glad the shingles are settling down.

I find it hard to pack...specially in spring and fall. I brought enough clothes, but onle one long sleeved shirt. I wish I had brought more!

  6. Kowhai is my favorite native flower. And it does so attract the nectar feeding birds. Beautiful photo. Enjoy your road trip. F

  10. I envy your freedom to travel in this way. Four in a car would still be unthinkable here.

  14. Happy blogaversity ( I checked and it really is a word). I also started blogging in October but that was back in 2013. I find it hard to believe I've found things to write about for 7 years!! I like the comparison to modern-day penpals. It really is like that but instead of having to wait a week or more for any response you get one in a day or two.
I'm glad your shingles are settling down. It would have been awful if they had interfered with your upcoming trip.

  15. Sympathies with the shingles. I had two bouts of adult chicken pox in my late thirties and mid forties. Then I got The VIrus From Hell, followed by shingles. Unemployable for many long months. Great that your vaccine is working. Blogging - I too love the friends that I've made via blogging. Pen friends, as one of them said to me (like you also said) and it's just great.

  17. I had pen pals growing up and find blogging the same in many ways.

The road trip sounds like fun! And it’s spring!

  18. Congratulations. I've missed a week or so so didn't realise you had shingles. It's singularly horrible. I hope it's well on the retreat. Good luck with the packing. I understand Hawkes Bay is toastie today. But experience tells me that next week may be down to 10ºC again like last week.
