Pottering

The rain we were promised this morning never eventuated so after breakfast it was out into the garden to do some watering.  I usually water in the evening, but didn’t last night because of the rain that was meant to arrive.

It was a bit of a potter-around day, doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that but nothing that important.  I was telling one of my sons about disposing of more books, and made the comment that I was trying to only keep those that “spoke” to me.  His reply:  “You might need to stand there for a while, then, and see which ones go quiet!”

With Christmas fast approaching I thought perhaps I should put up some trimmings, and decorated my bedroom with a few little baubles.  Grand-daughter bought a small artificial tree and has decorated it with a string of lights and a few ornaments.  It looks very pretty.

Hope your weekend is going well,
Margaret

  1. I purged my books before we moved nine years ago. Since that time, I donate books to the local library. Those with a publication date of the last two years, I am issued a tax receipt for.. I keep few books now.

    1. Well done Marie. Probably my biggest problem is that when I do manage to remove some books, others seem to appear to take their place! I am going to have to be very strict with myself this time round.

  2. My books are part of me. I will have a hard time disposing of any of them, but I intend to make sure they will go to people who will cherish them as I have done.

    1. It's funny how we get so attached to our books. They are like old friends to me, and parting with them is not that easy.

  3. Such pretty areas/decorations. You must have the knack...I am sadly lacking in it. I enjoy seeing how others decorate...

personal question, so ignore it if you won't. Have you always lived in New Zealand? I just cannot imagine Christmas in the warmer months, but Christmas in cold weather is probably as weird to you if you have always lived there.

Though when I was a kid we had one Christmas, when it was warm enough to just wear long sleeved shirts. But so odd, that I still think about it.

    2. Yes Rose, I am a born and bred New Zealander and cannot really imagine what it must be like for you. Our Christmas meals are usually either an outdoor barbecue, or else a selection of cold meats and salads. The weather is always warm and even a long-sleeved shirt would be too hot!

    3. An outdoor barbecue does not sound too bad! It is not super cold here yet...but do need long sleeves. Life is sure interesting...like you said, or I think it was you...it would sure be boring if everyone was the same.

  4. Sometimes it takes only a few Christmassy items to add that festive touch!

  5. When we got married I got rid of a lot of books but must say the number is on the rise again.
