Meet Caramello and Templeton – or Mello and Timmy for short –
the two little rats who have now joined our household.
Son and grand-daughter collected them during the weekend
from a local lady who breeds rats. Mello
is the one on the left with the mink (silvery brown) colouring, and Timmy is
black and white. They have adapted to
their new home by thoroughly exploring every inch of their cage and tentatively
trying out the exercise wheel.
With our high risk of having a natural disaster (especially a major earthquake
in this area), we like to keep some supplies on hand. Mostly this is canned goods and sealed
packets of rice and cereal, and today I pulled it all out of the cupboard and
sorted it out.
This seems to need doing on a fairly regular basis so that
we can keep things rotated correctly. Ideally
rotation would happen smoothly, but in reality it never seems to!
I saw some of these Muscari (grape hyacinths) flowering the
other day. They are such a pretty
reminder of spring on its way.
I hope everyone has a great day 😊
Margaret
How do yor cats react to the rattys? Have you ever heard Captain Beaky? If not google it - we love Ratty Rat in his Reckless Hat.
ReplyDeleteMillie will stop and look but the other two ignore them. I looked up Ratty Rat - loved him :)
DeleteI don't know about those rats but I presume they are more loveable than the wild kind.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly have lots to keep them healthy in mind and body!!
Apparently these tame rats have become so domestic that they would struggle to survive in the wild. They are still rats though :)
DeleteAwwww... cutie pies!
ReplyDeleteHaaaa. I found the one and onther can being best before 2011...And we don´t even have to fear any catastrophes like you do.
Oh, lucky you. Autumn on the way after a shit#y summer...
But you are right: To a great day!
Our seasons often follow on from Northern Hemisphere ones, so I wonder what sort of summer we will have.
DeleteWe are storing loads more dried and canned food, so like you we have pulled it all out for date checks, I hate to throw any food out. I am waiting for my winter pansy seeds to fill out for planting, I have also got forget-me-nots as well. Love your rats, my niece kept rats for years, I'm not a fan, but they can be fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteWhat cute looking rats - not my favourite creature though... I too have some grape hyacinths out. They grow like weeds here. I am hoping my ixias flower before I have to leave the property....
ReplyDeleteStay safe
Blessings
Maxine
Your rats seem to have high end accommodation.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would say a rat was cute, but yours are cute. I hope you do not have any natural disasters, enough is happening already. The flowers are beautiful! Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great new week!
Great names for the rats! There was an outdoor fire pit at Lorelei's new home...Sarah was taking it apart to rebuilt it and down in it was a lot of mice. She caught 3 for Lorelei...and they named them Riki, Tiki, and Tavi. They are cute as can be but she cannot get them out and play with them because they are so wild.
ReplyDeleteLove the little flowers...right now I could not spell their name if I had to. I am hitting a blank spot in my mind.
I don’t envy your predisposition to earthquakes, Margaret. You are staying on top of things though by checking supplies.
ReplyDeleteI've seen hyacinths flowering at my work. Not sure how I'd feel about the rats, the cat would probably be interested in them.
ReplyDeleteAww, they look very comfortable and happy in their new home. Great name choices! // There are still grape hyacinth growing in the gardens my mama planted in 1962 at the house I grew up in (that my DIL owns as my son's widow). I love seeing these pop up every Spring here, which is usually February/March when they show up. Blessings to you, Margaret!
ReplyDeleteThe grape hyacinths are lovely. Last year I found some in light blue...I hope they are as hardy as the purple ones are. I have seen white ones but they don't appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how quickly food becomes out of date (time flying too fast). Yuk on the rats - even if they are domesticated.
ReplyDeleteYes, we need to keep track of out of date items.
