A Blustery Saturday

It’s a bit of a blustery day today, with overcast grey skies and the odd skirmish of squally wind.  The weak winter sun tries to shine through occasionally, but then gives up and retreats to its hideout.

At least it isn’t raining, well, not yet anyway!

This morning I wrote an email to my daughter – she gets one at least every week, and we usually message each other as well.

Late morning I took grand-daughter and a friend around to another friend’s home for a birthday party, and then came home and spent some time going through the Kings Seeds catalogue that arrived in our mailbox.

Now, after my corned beef sandwich lunch, I am off to visit one of my brothers and his wife.  It should be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

Take care and stay safe J

Margaret.

  1. I love looking at seed and plant catalogs every year, coming up with ideas of what we'll put in the Spring gardens. Getting those catalogs in the mail halfway through the winter months sure helps to while away some of the cold winter dreariness, doesn't it! Blessings and prayers you are staying well, Margaret!

    1. I dream lots and make lots of plans, only most of them don't happen! But it certainly makes a great winter distraction :)

  3. I must look out for the Kings catgalogue and ask for one if it doesn't arrive. I haven't had one for years but bought seeds from them during Lockdown,.

    1. I think they send one to everyone who bought seeds during the last 12 months, so you should receive one.

  4. Hello Margaret, I've come via Sue's "My Quiet Life in Suffolk". Here down in Wellington there is no rain and no wind (!), just light grey skies. That is a very dangerous seed catalogue - may result in damage to the finances. Take care and keep safe, Michelle in Northland, Wgtn, NZ

    1. Welcome Michelle :)
Sue's wonderful blog was one of the first I ever followed and I still enjoy it. LOL, it is certainly a dangerous catalogue - it nearly always damages my finances :)

  5. I have already purchased most of my seeds for next year, not taking any chances, so many people here have started gardening and loads of things sold out in the summer. We are having the most windy of summer's, it'a another blowy day here.

    1. So many seem to start gardening when a disaster threatens but not many continue on with it when things improve again. I like to keep a store of my favourite seeds on hand - just in case!

  6. My DiL gets that catalogue, and it damages my finances too! It was cold and blustery here today also - your sky photo looks very familiar. I did get out (all bundled up) and pruned the crab apple tree. so that's all the pruning done for the season - phew.
Enjoy your time with family Margaret - I am blessed to have two of the family with their spouses and the grand children, living locally, so I often see a lot of them, and my remaining brother lives in the next town, 20 minutes away.
    Stay safe
    Blessings

    1. I had a lovely afternoon with my brother and his wife. I used to have three brothers but one passed away some time ago, and the other one lives in Australia so I seldom see him.
You will be glad to have the pruning completed - another few weeks and we will be heading into spring :)

  7. It used to happen to us in UK too - F would buy seeds on-line (where it is easy to find lots of small boutique seed merchants) and they would send a paper catalogue next year. They had clearly invested much in an efficient website but still spent more on printing and posting the paper version much to F's annoyance). (Different story if we'd ordered from a paper catalogue.) F say's she remembers Kings from her gardening in Dunedin days and they were her favorites. Question: Do they have any seeds for Asian cucumbers (Armenian or similar)? F's been trying to talk her bro in Ashburton into growing some, but seeds might not be available in NZ.

    1. They have several different cucumbers available. If you want to look at www.kingsseeds.co.nz you can see what they all are. They seem to specialize in the more unusual plants, more than the common ones, and I did see a couple with Asian written beside them.

  8. You are fortunate to live near your brother. My only family other than my daughter is a day’s travel away. I last saw him three years ago. Enjoy!

  9. Hello,

It is great you are able to meet up with your family. We are still keeping our distance here. I would want to pick too much from the catalogue. Take care, enjoy your day and weekend!
