Garden Grasses

Son has been shopping!  He came home from the hardware store this morning with more grass plants to place around the deck.

Most of the grasses are hardy, and will withstand our normal summer temperatures and the usual winter climate we have here.

There are so many different varieties and they look great scattered amongst the flowers or grouped together like in this corner.

It is very windy here this afternoon, and the grape vine has broken free of one of its supporting wires.  It was probably weakened a couple of weeks ago when we had strong winds, and the neighbour’s gazebo-tent decided to flip itself up and over the fence and land on top of the grape vine.

I can hear the chimes in the car port clanging around in the wind, and I know the tomatoes, that have almost finished cropping, are also waving around.  I suppose I should really go out and tie them up a bit more.

Have a happy day 😊

Margaret.

  2. Your summer gardening sounds so wonderful right now. Our daylight is increasing by over 2 minutes a day though.

  3. Nothing to do with grasses but I see you went to the Chateau just in time as it is closing with no new bookings being taken. I left it too late!!

    1. I hope you get some cooling rain - but no destructive storm like Auckland has just had!

  5. Oh Margaret - the wind is hitting here too and wreaking havoc in the garden... hope your grape vine survives! I thought of you when I saw that 'The Chateau' is closing - your visit was well timed to fulfil your dream

    1. Yes, I am so glad I got to experience it. The building is a Heritage one, so perhaps someone will eventually renovate it (hope so).

  6. I like your ornamental grasses. They would look nice in my garden. There must be something similar here

  7. It looks beautiful indeed!
Haha, when we went from a smaller to a larger sun-brolly one day - it wasn´t even that windy - it suddenly broke loose, up till 3rd floor and landed in the garden.
Were we lucky no one was there!
We just couldn´t believe it, LOL.
If neighbors in floor 2 and 3 were in their living rooms they surely wondered! (we are the only ones with a small balcony).
Ever since we string it to balcony with very strong yarn!
The brolly is dark red, too. Like a rocket that thing took off 🤣

    1. Flying umbrellas are so frightening. I'm glad nobody was hurt. Our big umbrella is always anchored down as well. Often it is trampolines that go flying in strong winds, but thankfully none of our near neighbours own one.

  8. We have a couple of patches or ornamental grasses in our garden. Not my favourites but my wife likes them.

  9. You guys are sure getting it rough this month. Those grasses look good though. xxx Mr T (who would happily eat all ornamental grass!)

  10. We used to have a huge patch of ornamental grass at one of our houses that we started from just a couple of clumps. They are so unique!

  11. Oh my, the tent went flying?! Good thing it didn't break anything. I hope the tomatoes & grapevines withstood the wind, along with everything else. Strong winds always worry me...falling trees and downed power lines. Looking forward to seeing how your grasses grow...I'll have to try planting some.. Hope all is well there and you're safe & sound.

  12. I like ornamental grasses and find most are quite hardy. Will you plant them in the ground or leave them in containers? GM

    1. He intends to leave them in the containers so that he can move them around to where he thinks they will look best. The cats get quite confused sometimes, because the pots and some rocks get moved around on a fairly regular basis :)

  13. Nice. I like those plants, carex are my favourite, they are so versatile and can cope with virtually any weather catastrophe.
