Enjoying Springtime

Although Autumn would have to be my favourite season, I am finding that Spring also has its pleasures.

These Dutch Iris are making a beautiful show in the garden, and everything is growing rapidly as we move towards Summer.

The weather can be a bit unpredictable though.  Temperatures are rising, but one day can be fine and sunny and the next wet and dreary.  The odd frost will come along to nip off new growth on plants eager to get growing.

We had one such frost this morning.  Much of the country has been experiencing freezing temperatures the last couple of days, with snow in several places, and it is being called an “unseasonal polar blast.”

I call it Spring!

Enjoy your day 😊

Margaret.

  1. Dutch Iris is fabulous to look at. The frost suggests a chilly morning you have down there!

  2. Thought it was cold here this morning (4°) but that looks worse.

  3. Oh no! An unseasonal polar blast! The world's climate seems to be more than a little strange it seems. I hope nothing got nipped by the frost in your garden. Your Dutch Iris are lovely. I should plant more ( I think I have maybe 5 left. Each year one or two less).

    1. I had a wander around the garden and the grape seems to be the hardest hit (I forgot to cover it). Everything else looks pretty good, and I think the grape will recover okay.

  4. That gave me a smile, Margaret. I call it spring, too! Thank heavens we didn't get anywhere near as cold as you did.

  5. Beautiful iris's Margaret. We had a -2.7 oC frost this morning - killed off all the new growth on the grape, so no fruit this summer - and that after we covered it :(

    1. Brrr. I remember the year we lived in Tokoroa and the ground remained frozen all winter. Hopefully your grape will come back - nature can be quite amazing sometimes.

  6. Woow look at that parsley. Tigger has been advised this is what he has to look forward to. He has stayed on the human bed the last two mornings even though a balmy 18-20 degrees or so here still. He settles into the crumpled up blankets and looks perplexed if asked to move.

    1. Oh poor Tigger. Our Millie and Mittens are suffering too as they have been busy shedding fur the last couple of weeks and it doesn't grow back that fast!

  7. Love the colour of your iris. It's a spring flower here too. Our neighbour has white ones

  8. You are right. It is spring and the odd unseasonable day doesn't change that.

  13. I love fall, too, but am always ready for spring when it comes! Your spring sounds much like ours. Up, down, and everything at one point or another.
