Blissful Peace

Once a week I am making an effort to escape the city and head out into the surrounding countryside, weather permitting.  Yesterday I drove an hour to Bulmers Landing on Lake Arapuni and drank in the peace and quiet.

Apart from a couple of lunchtime visitors I had the place to myself and the only noise was the wind whispering in the trees, a chattering group of sparrows, and the haunting call of a lone kingfisher looking for a mate.  It was bliss!

There were lots of birds to see and hear around the place – sparrows, kingfisher, tui, grey warbler, magpie, cormorant, mallard ducks, black swans, goldfinch, chaffinch, hawk, mynah, and blue herons.

I spent a couple of hours enjoying the peace and sunshine while exercising my very rusty sketching skills and making a pen sketch of the bluffs opposite me.

These dairy cows were grazing beside the road on my way home again.  Pastoral scenes like this are certainly not seen in the city!

Until next time 😊

Margaret.

  2. A lovely day out. We keep intending to take a day out but "things" keep getting in the way of it.

  3. That is a great habit - getting out into the countryside weekly. You are a good sketcher. I don't see any signs of rust!

  4. Sounds like an idyllic way to spend some time alone, and based in what I see, please take your sketch pad frequently and share with us again.

  5. Lovely space to spend time, looks so peaceful. I would hang your sketch in a frame on my wall, you may think it is rustic, but it's way better then anything I could do.

  6. Margaret, before I had read down to the sketch I was already composing a comment about those wonderful cliffs - double wonderful. Blog us more of your sketches. That's a special skill you have there.

  7. Hello,

Looks like a beautiful day, it feels good to get away. It relieves the stress, go to a new place for a change of scenery, fresh air and a walk. The sketch is great! Love the views and the cattle. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend!

    1. Wow, Maxine, I didn't know you lived around that area (we lived and worked around there 10-15 years ago). If you would like to meet up at all, please message me your contact details via a comment (which I will not publish). Cheers, Mxx

  15. I love Lake Aripuna. On Our first night under canvas camped at Landings lane we were welcomed to New Zealand with the most spectacular storm lasting an hour. When we peeked out our tent was the only one left standing!! Helen in France
