Grumpy Old Men

People who are grumpy must make themselves so miserable, as well as those around them.

Yesterday, on my way home from a visit to my brother, I stopped at an orange traffic light.  The man behind me sat on his horn and threw his arms up in the air – he obviously intended to have run the red light.

I could observe him in my rear-vision mirror and his face was so grumpy – it looked habitual, not just a momentary annoyance, and I felt sorry for him and the unhappy life he must lead.

Godwits taking to the wing at Omokoroa.

I believe we all have a choice in how we lead our lives.  We can be miserable and grumpy or we can choose to be happy and mindful of the good things in our life.

Happiness does not depend on what we have, or what activities we participate in, or how much money is sitting in our bank.  Happiness is a choice we make that comes from within ourselves, whatever our situation is.

Would you agree?

Margaret 😊

  1. Happiness is the journey not the destination. We agree with you wholeheartedly.

  2. Yes I definitely agree. Sometimes life in general gets a little much, and we all can get frustrated and grumpy once in a while, but we can choose to get over it and not let the grumpiness get too far in.

  3. Yes, very much I agree with you, we work at being happy every day, it's not hard work, and the results, everyone is happy around us.

  4. Oh yes I agree with you. When I come across people like that I say a little prayer for them. It sure makes me feel better and it may help them too. :)

  5. I am 100 pee cent in agreement with your sentiments.

  6. I agree completely. One feels sorry for that obviously unhappy man but I feel sorrier yet for his family. How unpleasant to live with a grouch.

  7. I really agree with you. We choose how we approach life. Living in the moment helps.

  8. Totally agree, Margaret. And agree that he's probably a grouch to live with... or unhappily living alone (hence the grouch). Either way, not a desirable space to be in.

  9. Exactly and as Granny Marigold says I feel sorry for his family.

  10. You may have saved his life by stopping when you were supposed to. There is always someone in a hurry...

  11. Oh yes. It is a choice. It's makes life difficult for them and those around them.
I'm glad for you that he was in the car behind and you could ignore him.

  13. Oh my, what a sad life, that grumpy old man, must lead. And as Granny Marigold said, how miserable for anyone who has to life with him.

But then, being an OLD grumpy man, maybe he lives alone, and this is part of his grumpiness?

    Who knows....

I like your attitude much better. -smile-

  14. Poor old guy, I wonder why he was in such a hurry and grumpy...sounds like an accident waiting to happen, perhaps you saved a life:)

  15. Depends. When you have to care for sick loved ones over a long time happiness might get quite small.
This man sounds rather choleric! And that, I agree, is sad. On the other hand I once had a colleague over years, in the same office, who drove me nuts every day and I could not switch to another office. I did not get choleric, but weee... it was a hard time. No one liked him and I had to share the office, arghhhh...

  17. Oh, I do agree with you, Margaret. Being grumpy all the time must make a life so miserable!!

  18. I don't know why people have to be so impatient when they drive, one thing I found when we lived in Tauranga was that people there are so impatient to the point where it's dangerous

  19. I agree 100%, Margaret. Even in the difficult times we can choose to be more positive.

  20. You are so right. I choose happiness too. Life is too short to be miserable and grumpy. I avoid people who are that way.

  21. Absolutely, I agree. Sometimes I think being grumpy gets to be a habit.
