A Cup Of Tea

One of my nieces lives in Australia and today is her birthday.  When we were living just around the road from each other we often got together for a chat over a cup of tea.  So today we made ourselves a cup of tea and video chatted together.  It was great!

Otherwise my day has been rather ho-hum.  I did some washing and pegged it out beneath the carport as the weather today is squally showers, so nothing will dry out on the clothesline.

This weather system has also brought some cooler temperatures with it.  We are very close to wanting to light the fire, just for the comfort more than the warmth.  Our old cat, Teenie, would absolutely love it as she is beginning to really feel the cold now and sits in front of the fireplace dreaming it is actually warm!

Son had a message from a friend, who has a friend, who has a nephew, who has a mother-in-law, who has a step-dad, who has died from Covid-19.  It amazes me how the grapevine works!

He was one of the four deaths announced today, giving us a total of nine who have so far died.  I think our numbers would have been much higher if we did not have lock-down.

School holidays have officially now ended, with today being designated a teacher-only day for most places.  Tomorrow, grand-daughter will begin her high school studies online.  She was telling me several classes will be on conference calls, and with the rest the teacher will be available for questions during the time their class would have normally been held.  The school is suggesting all pupils follow their regular class timetable to achieve the work they need to complete.

We will have to stop having sleep-ins in the morning!

And now I think I will go and make another cup of tea, or maybe I could treat myself to a steaming cup of hot chocolate – but without the cream!!

Stay safe everyone and keep busy and happy J
Margaret.

  1. Hello and Happy Tuesday Margaret! As usual your photos and words just made me happy reading it except for your son's friend's family member that passed away :( Your country is now on the news here together with Australia as having had a great job flattening the curve but to make it better, they still will continue the lockdown to prevent further cases again. That is very sweet that you had tea virtually with your niece and I love that china you used! I had tea this after lunch and now I wish I used a nice cup too :) Please be well and stay safe Margaret and I took a spoonful of your hot chocolate just a teeny taste!

    1. LOL to sharing my hot chocolate. I hope you enjoyed it! :)
Tea always tastes better in nice china. This cup is part of a set made by Crown Lynn, who used to be a major local pottery business.
      Stay safe, Mxx

  3. There's not going to be much of your hot chocolate left Margaret because I had sip (and a sneaky spoonful of the whipped cream as well)

Everything seems better after a nice cup of tea doesn't it. I certainly look forward to my waking up one plus maybe one or two more at breakfast time. Dilmah is my morning choice then loose leaf Chinese green during the afternoon. All in good bone china because yes, it tastes better:)

    1. Glad you enjoyed my hot chocolate! I really must buy myself a new teapot so I can get back to drinking real leaf tea :)

  4. Oh have the cream on your hot chocolate, we have a mug once a week with the full works including marshmallows and more grated chocolate, it taste much better with all the extra calories. After our hot few days, we have a cold wind, which has dropped the temperature 10 degrees, and with just 2 small rain storms in 5 weeks, I am hoping for one good wet day.

  5. A beautiful mug and a happy Birthday to your Niece, oh, what would we do these days without internet?
    You have a cute cat.
Sad news you got, hugs from here, sad, even if you are not close.
Hmmm. Guess I´ll have another straw of chocolate in my drink again, Ixx

  6. I've now caught up with your posts. Like you I still have coffee with friends - we make a coffee and video chat. It's pretty good really. Certainly chatting via WhatsApp etc both text and video has certainly lessened the isolation that some may feel in the present circumstances. On the other hand loneliness even in ordinary circumstances is one of the sadnesses of modern society and life.

  7. I get out and bird for a while every day, which is just the tonic for me. I haven't had any trouble staying busy at home and have not been bored even for a moment - but getting outdoors is best of all!

  8. That hot chocolate looks so yummy on this cold morning. Our granddaughter has been doing her classes on-line for a while.

  9. It is just a regular lock down day here. We’ve had a walk and I’m making lunch. Time is going by, slowly but it’s going! We washed clothes and put in out to dry. There is a nice breeze and it should dry quickly. Take care!

  10. The lock down here in Washington State has made a huge difference. We had the first official case in Seattle and it started to spread rapidly. The governor took decisive action starting with recommendations followed by mandated stay home orders in mid-March. Since then the rate has slowed dramatically except for nursing homes where control is very difficult. New practices for them has helped, but living in close quarters with limited staffing makes it a hotbed. We are quite safe we feel here staying away from people and remaining indoors in our condo for the majority of the day. Our stay home order extends until May 4. With the president talking about reopening sooner I don't know if that will change. I hope not. Lessons learned from the 1918 pandemic indicate a second rise in infections most likely would follow. - Margy

  11. I can commiserate with Teenie because I feel the cold more and more as I age.
I think 80% of the deaths due to Covid-19 in Canada have been seniors. Most were in care homes.
Something I cannot understand is how come the homeless are not dying because they definitely do not observe physical distancing. They crowd together in their messy tent homes and although washing stations have been set up it doesn't look like they get much use.

    1. Strange about the homeless. We have been noticing around the world that poorer and crowded areas are often not as represented death-wise as more affluent areas, which doesn't really make sense. Perhaps their weaker people have already succumbed to something else? A lot of deaths seem to be happening in those one would expect could easily die each winter (the elderly and vulnerable) from common influenza, as it is amazing how many people that kills each year.
Take care, stay warm and stay safe, Mxx

  12. I am sure Teenie enjoyed the fire as much as Kim did last night. Cold again today - I am shivering even though I have a jumper on.

    1. She did Susan! Yes, today is not nice at all and I think we have a whole week of it ahead of us. I do hope you get a bit more rain up there though. Mxx

  13. Yes I suppose your school year is just beginning. So sad kids cannot go to school, but we do what we have to do to stay safe...I like hot chocolate also!
