As a general rule, I usually prefer to follow a recipe when
cooking. Once I find a recipe I like it
gets tweaked to suit our personal preferences and then I stick with it.
Not so with Smoothies!
I can get ideas from other people’s recipes but never seem to be able to
follow them. It is always a case of
throw in whatever is on hand and hope it tastes alright!
Our blender recently ceased to work and we have replaced it
with a Nutribullet 900 “nutrient extractor” and are finding it great for
getting back into making Smoothies again.
This one was a Mint Smoothie that I made last night.
As I said, no recipe but I can tell you what went into it –
½ avocado, 1 small frozen banana, a piece of celery, a small handful of fresh
mint leaves and some milk.
The mint flavour made it very refreshing, but maybe next
time I will use water instead of milk.
We’ll see, it will change each time I make it!
Have a happy day 😊
Margaret.
Smoothies really are easy to make and almost always taste great. Only once did I make one that was less than tasty. It started with a store-bought frozen mix and it included chick peas. I like chick peas but definitely not in my smoothie. Granny M
ReplyDeleteThat sounds very 'green'. F was impressed, Mr B not so much (he survives on junk food and avocados make him ill). Tigger said ask Mittens what Tigger would think of it.... xxx Mr T
ReplyDeleteHi Tigger, Mittens here. Purrrr. Millie and I think you will be an Aristocat like us and turn up your nose at green milk tasting of mint. The Rat Brothers would probably enjoy it as they like mint, but they are Strange Creatures, you know, and don't even know how to purr to show their enjoyment of something.
DeleteSending you many happy lickings and purrings 😻
Interesting mixture
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts were milk and mint, maybe not, but we are not smoothie lovers, daughter uses fruit and we prefer fruit as a salad all mixed together.
ReplyDeleteShoot. I have milk and mint. Ingo ate the last banana. But avos are hard to get here anyways, no idea why... Either hard like stone or black inside and squishy.
ReplyDeleteYours look yummy!
I find buying avocados (and they grow here!) is always a bit of a lottery :)
DeleteSeems to me that yogurt would be a good ingredient.
ReplyDeleteYou're right! I imagine it would make it a lot creamier :)
DeleteI cannot remember the last time I had a smoothie, but that one sounds pretty refreshing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite refreshing drink after a hot day of playing tourist in Kathmandu was a fresh squeezed lemonade whirled up in a blender with ice and a few big sprigs of mint. Now I make it at home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful sounding smoothie recipe, Margaret. like you I tend to throw and hope with smoothies :) I also have a nutribullet, and love it!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine
Thanks for reminding me that I haven't had a smoothie in ages. I have a nutribullet, too, must get it out and give it a whizz.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy having one of those right now! I think next time I go to the store I'll pick up some extra fruit and berries. You've motivated me!
ReplyDeleteGood idea!
ReplyDeleteLooks and sounds delicious :)
ReplyDeleteMargaret: what is the name of the town shown in your top photo? I'm sure I went there when I was in NZ but I can't remember the name.
ReplyDeleteIt is Mount Maungaui, next door to Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, yes I'm pretty sure we walked on the beach there, I still have some shells that I picked up.
DeleteHi Margaret, Haven't seen your electrons in ages. Hope you are well.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Pauline. I've just got a few ongoing health issues, and haven't felt up to blogging lately. Hopefully be back soon :) xx
DeleteSorry to hear you're poorly Margaret. I've checked in regularly and found you 'not at home' but I'd hoped you were off on a lovely holiday. I hope you're back well again and up to blogging very soon. XX
ReplyDeleteThanks Virginia. Hopefully be back soon xx
DeleteThe mint smoothie sounds really yummy! I love mint and have plenty growing in my garden. I don't care that it spreads!
