They end up like fluffy cardboard with absolutely no taste. I'm picking these strawberries were kept too cold at some stage, whether when picked, transported, or stored at the supermarket. They're soooooo soft and the towel is huge. // I was told a while back that the reason some places have strawberries like that is the refridgeration of the transport truck to the store, either over-refridgeration or the level of temperature control was not consistent. I'd accidentally picked up a pint like that and took them back to the store. I have struck a couple this season, including some that had big dents like they had been hit by hale stones. They also seem very cheap so far this season, at $2 a punnet you would wonder how costs are recovered.
