The Queen Is Dead. Long Live The King.

I was very saddened when I got up this morning and discovered that Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, had peacefully passed away during our night.

My grandmother was born before the death of Queen Victoria and knew the reigns of five monarchs, but I have only ever known one.

Queen Elizabeth’s dedication to her work and devotion to duty as The Queen has been an incredible example to all who have examined her life, and she will be deeply mourned around the world.

King Charles III now sits upon this historic throne, and I pray he will be able to follow his mother’s example and become a great and much loved monarch.

You can shed tears that she is gone

Or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back

Or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left.

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her

Or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she’s gone

Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back

Or you can do what she’d want:

Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

    1. No, I didn't write it Rose. It was used at the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 2002, and the author is given as "anonymous"

  4. I love that poem, Margaret. A work colleague gave me a copy when my sister died and I passed it on to my mother who treasured it. RIP Queen Elizabeth

  6. I was so shocked when I heard that the Queen had died. I remember when the king died and Elizabeth became queen. At the time in Canadian schools we still sang the national anthem and God save the King every morning. I was in grade 1 and the teacher explained that from now on we would sing God save the Queen. It made a big impression on me. May she rest in peace.

  7. What a good poem.
I love the continuity of the monarchy and how straight away we have a king

  8. As a country we are devastated to lose our head of state, she did a fantastic job, with dignity and honour. The world is morning her, because she was loved so much by everyone. She always put her country first, never was it about her, but she, her personality, her drive ran through everything. Sadly King Charles is not like her, he meddles, where she kept quiet and Charles, who mostly gets his own way at the cost to others, I think is selfish. So many people, me includes can't forget how cruel he was to Diana, not allowing her to keep her HRH, which would have given her protection, and who knows hoe differently her story could have been. As for his consort, I have no respect for her. Times are changing.

  10. No one can fault Her Majesty for her life long devotion to Duty and Country.

No one can really step into her shoes.

Best Wishes to King Charles III. His job, is enormous.

But he will have the support of his amazing son, William, Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge.

    Rest in Peace, Dear Lady...

    👑💛She kept her word💛👑

  11. There is a strange feeling of emptiness around right now, like the day after the Olympics finishes... I can't believe she was still 'working' on Tuesday! However when you look at the photos it was easy to see how frail she had become.
