An Uncomfortable Arm

I had an appointment with a Nurse this morning to receive my 2022 winter season influenza vaccination, which went according to plan.

According to my records, I was also overdue for a tetanus booster shot so had that as well.  It is coupled with diphtheria and whooping cough, so I’ve been boosted for them too!

There was the regulation 15 minute wait before I could leave the surgery (in case there were any adverse reactions) and I was told to rest and drink plenty of water.

So far I feel fine, and it is just my arm that is feeling hot and rather uncomfortable.  That’ll pass though, so I am not really complaining.

We have four places around our home where we can store firewood and son is slowly getting them semi-enclosed so they are more sheltered from the rain.

He has just finished building this one, between the garage and the garden shed.

Although part of me is dreading the onset of winter, I admit that I am actually looking forward to having a fire again.

There is something very cozy about a wood fire 😊

Margaret.

  1. This afternoon the temperature in our central North Island rural valley was 26C, currently it is 17C at 4:45 pm. I don't think we will be having a fire tonight.

  2. Wow we didn't know about boosters for diptheria and whooping cough. Sounds like you were up for everything. No wonder there is a war raging in your arm. They couldn't have spread it around a bit could they?

  4. Nothing beats a lovely open fire, we always had one in our home as a child, I remember mum dealing with ashes, which was used on the garden. Sadly we are gas here so can only dream of such luxuries.

  5. Fires are nice and cosy when it's blustering blusterly outside but I'm so glad I could close ours up for the summer months. I'm over cleaning out ashes.

    1. I used to be like that with ashes. Now Son does all the fire stuff so I only need to enjoy sitting by it!

  6. I am amazed that wood burning still continues. It is really bad for air quality.

  10. Ouch! I can imagine it is uncomfortable. But worth it, as you know.

Yes, a fire is cozy and delightful.

  11. Sitting by a cozy fire is one of the better aspects of winter. Looks like you have a good supply of wood.
I hope your poor arm soon feels better. With all the different vaccines you got it's no wonder it is sore.

  13. Ugg. I'm due Tetanus and Shingles shots. I am so afraid of needles!! Guess I will get it done. Hope your arm is feeling better. You are so right about the coziness of a wood fire. That's about the nicest part of winter. :) You always have the most beautiful header pictures. Funny, I stopped yesterday and took pictures of a neighbor's cow pasture which is covered in tiny yellow flowers...I was going to post about it but after seeing yours, well, my picture is pretty dull. :)

  14. A wood pile is such a comfort, and a clever way to keep it nice and dry. Tell me, what is winter like in New Zealand? Our wood pile is pretty small after the hard winter and no propane delivery...time to restock before October comes! Take care, Mary

    1. Our winters here are more wet than cold. We have frosts but seldom get any snow (they do get snow further south from us). It is the chilling damp that seeps into the bones that I find hardest to deal with.
