Merry Christmas

Here it is, Christmas Eve 2021.  It has been quite a year, one way and another.

I am glad I took a bit of a break from blogging.  I pulled back from other computer things at the same time, and have quite enjoyed my three weeks off-screen (well, mostly off-screen!).

Celebrating Christmas in 1956

It has been quite a busy time, sorting through old boxes and meeting up with old friends.  This last week Son and I put up our Christmas decorations, along with a tiny tree.

Decorated bookshelf, 2021

The Christmas Cake was made and iced.  I don’t normally ice fruit cake (it gets too sweet) but we had some bought packet icing (both royal icing and white icing) sitting in the cupboard from two years ago.  It was way past its expiry date (September 2020!) but there is nothing wrong with it at all so it got used.

No fancy decorations on the cake though.  I have been known to sometimes go to some effort to decorate the cake, but this year it will be eaten and enjoyed without anything fancy being added.

One very ordinary Christmas cake

My wish is that you all have happy times together with your families over this holiday season.

Stay safe and be happy 😊

  1. Merry Christmas, Margaret. I hope it's a pleasant day! Your Christmas cake looks anything but ordinary. It's lovely!
Is that your Mom holding you in 1956? She looks a lot like a young Queen Elizabeth. I wonder if anyone else will notice that.

    1. Yes, my mother and me. She often got comments on her likeness to the Queen when she was younger, but we are not related as far as I know! :)

  3. The cake looks lovely...no decorations needed. Glad you had some time away to focus on what's important to you...we don't do that often enough. You're already enjoying your Christmas Eve Day, so have a wonderful Christmas, it's been nice to chat with you "across the miles!" Mary

  6. I'm glad you're back, and feeling better Margaret. Happy Christmas to you, and may 2022 bring us all a less bumpy ride. Less than two years past Best By date is minor. During the 2020 Lock down when we all did "The Big Kitchen Clean Out" I found a couple of tins that were from the previous century!! About the best thing that came out of that Lock down, the spring clean caused by desperate boredom!
Happy Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

    1. LOL it's amazing what lurks in the dark back corners of our cupboards - those tins would have been hilarious to find :)

    1. The header is of Lake Hawea near Queenstown. Mittens says Hi back again - she is not happy with me at the moment as she got a little bit wet when I watered the garden this evening :)

  13. So lovely to see a post from you!!!!!!!!!!!! You are missed, my Dear.

But glad your break, was good for you. And do hope your mental attitude, is happily better. It's all a horror, no matter where we are. And very, very hard to deal with. -sigh-

We need to do whatever we know, we need to do.... To get ourselves through.... And hold each other's hand, even though in Cyber, while doing so.

Hugs, and Love, and Happy, Happy Christmas!

  17. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
I love cake with coffee ... I think your Christmas cake is very tasty - well, I imagine it :-)))
I also bake various cakes for Christmas and Christmas cookies, but one type is always bought and that is the Stollen - Dresdner Stollen - it is available with raisins and as an almond stollen. I love the almond stollen even more, although the tradition is probably the raisin stollen ... it goes back to the year 1474 (Christstollen).
    Christmas hug from Viola
