Celebrating Christmas

It is now Boxing Day here and the day has dawned warm and sunny again.

We had a lovely Christmas Day yesterday – quiet and peaceful and very relaxed.  The afternoon was spent sitting around talking and drinking lots of water as the temperatures climbed into the low 30s (Celsius).

Lunch was our main celebration.  As was befitting for a mid-summer meal, we had cold meat and lots of salads and finished off with a pavlova.

On the table we had ham and (moving clockwise) coleslaw, pickled onions, brie cheese, tomatoes, rice salad, lettuce and cucumber salad, green grapes, salad dressing, savoury eggs, beetroot, potato salad, and asparagus.  The centrepiece was the pavlova – a purchased one this year and not my usual homemade one.

For our beverage we chose Bunderberg Lemon Lime & Bitters, a slightly bitter very refreshing fizzy drink that suited the weather we were experiencing.

With a fair amount of food remaining, and temperatures forecast to reach the late 20s, today looks like it will be a good day to do as little as possible!

Have a happy day 😊

Margaret.

  1. It all looks delicious to me. My choice of drink would have been a deliciously chilled Sauvignon Blanc.

  6. Everything looks delicious, Margaret. We had a lovely meal with family at my granddaughter's yesterday and the family will be over this afternoon again, weather permitting. It is currently minus 12C with snow and wind creating near blizzard conditions.

  8. That is such a picture of home that F went all quiet for a while. The sun was shining here and the food was good but like any feast for two there is always too much. My humans are facing down cauliflower cheese and xmas pudding for a week.... Those eggs look a much better investment in tomorrow's picnic. Seasons Greetings Mr T

  9. Happy Boxing Day!

    Your table looks delightful!

So interesting, to read of a hot Christmas. -smile-

Here, we have little snow, but it is cold...

So it is the beginning of Deep Winter, to me.

And yes, I welcome it. -smile-

  10. I had to do the conversion to get an idea of what your temperature is...yep, that's a little too warm for me! You always have such yummy-looking food...I just clicked on your recipe section! It sounds so odd for me to say "stay cool" in December...I'm sending you some of our chilly windy blowing down from our Canadian friends! Mary

  12. YEs, 'cool' lunches/dinners are the order of the day at the moment, Margaret, and that looks a wonderful celebratory meal. I also love the Bunderberg Lemon Lime and Bitters
    Stay safe
