Weekend Pottering

We have had some lovely weather this weekend, and this morning I made the most of it and pottered around my little potted garden, deadheading and planting and generally tidying things up a little.

This Dianthus (often called pinks) is in full bloom.  It has a delicate scent that can really only be smelt when close to it.

Son came home with some plants from the garden centre last week and a couple of them had no name tags.  This was one of them, and I planted it into one of the hanging baskets.

At a guess, I think it may be one of the new types of petunias.  It is pretty anyway.

This afternoon, when it was getting too hot to be outdoors, we watched replays of rugby – the All Blacks (dressed in near-white!) against France, and then the England against South Africa game.

The All Blacks lost dramatically so the less I say about them the better!

The English game was nail-biting.  The sort of game that has you sitting on the edge of your seat – England managed to win by one point.  Very exciting.

There were protest drives throughout the country today by farmers – so there were many tractors and 4WD utes on the road!

I have family members who participated.  The farming community is fed up with how they are being treated and feel totally ignored in all major government decisions that affect their livelihood.

Unfortunately, there are also people protesting vaccinations and freedom restrictions (and others protesting climate change), so all the different protests are becoming a bit muddled together.

I find it quite alarming to see how angry some people are becoming, and often wonder where it is all going to end.

And then I remember what the Dalai Lama once said: “Do not let the behaviour of others destroy your inner peace.”

So, smile and be at peace with yourself 😊

  1. One of the facebook pages for the suburb next to mine is filled with such venom that I am aghast. And it's considered to be an upmarket place full of nice people!! Yep, all we can do really is disassociate from those who destroy our inner peace.

  2. Peaceful protest seems to be ever more frequently taking a back seat to violence, unfortunately.

  3. I had the flu vaccine last week. A sign in the clinic asked people not to verbally or physically abuse the workers. Unbelievable but there it is. Frustration is at an all time high!

  4. Margaret, I think the world is getting angry one way and another. It is hard to think of any topic at all where people are not angry about something or other.

  5. Agree with you on the alarming levels of rage; and the destructiveness of angry people is very concerning when, faced with such challenges as we have, we need to pull together somehow. Your garden looks like a mini haven of peace. xxx Mr T

  8. Looking at the pictures of your flowers makes me look forward to Spring even more than usual. Our weather was fair today and I began cutting off the old foliage from my Hellebores. If tomorrow is also fair I'll finish the job.

  9. Really pretty Dianthus, mine is white throughout my garden, at least they are easy to propogate.

  10. What a gorgeous wee garden you have there Margaret - I have two roses here - both of which missed 'the chop' when the section was tidied up - one is a tiny yellow one with a fabulous perfume!
Yes, one wonders just where all this protesting will end......
    Stay safe

  11. I was brought up in a family where shouting, or any loud, angry outbursts were not acceptable, and you were expected to listen to one another's views and express your own with calm conviction, not the vitriol that seems to be the norm today. I find it very difficult to be tolerant once the volume gets too loud and the language intemperate!

  12. Awww, beautiful new banner!!! A joy!

    And the pinks look beautiful.

Rugby is rather unknown here. Looks like a mix of soccer and American Football to me.

Yes. Politics makes people angry these days (again?).
Great quote - it made me smile and think positive.

  13. One can a;ways rely on the Dalai Lama for sound advice. More people need pretty flowers in their life, I think. I don't have many but I find enjoying the ones I do have adds pleasure to life.

I agree with the Dalai Lama, too much is too much.
