The Famous Five

Sometimes I look back over the week and wonder where all my days have gone.  If I didn’t keep a daily journal, I’d be wondering what I had done on each of those days as well.

Our weather has been so wet, wet, wet, this week and the best thing to do is stay indoors.  I’ve not been idle (all the time!), though.  My display cabinet, with ornaments, crystal etc. in it, is now sparkling clean, and my book shelves are being cleaned and the books organized a bit better than they were.

I added to my collection this morning when visiting a charity shop with my younger son, purchasing this Famous Five book.  I used to own quite a lot of them but they have disappeared in different directions over the years.

I know they are children’s books, but I actually enjoy reading one on a dreary afternoon.  This is not one I have read before, so I think I will be settling into my lounge chair with it this afternoon.

Last weekend I was invited out to dinner with some friends.  It was a lovely evening together, just five of us, and not something I have done for a long time.

There were three lemon trees on the property, absolutely laden with fruit, and I was thrilled to be given a bag of them to bring home.

Some of the lemons I have sliced into rings and dehydrated – I thought they might be nice to plonk into a glass of chilled water over summer time (not something I have tried before).

I also dried some peel, which will probably get used when cooking different meals.

My apologies to all my blogland friends for not doing any visiting lately.  Some days I don’t even make it onto my computer!

And some days, like now, I just want to curl up with a book.

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well,

Stay happy 😊

Margaret.

  3. Great to know you are living life outside the digital world. I read all the Famous 5 books as a kid; spent most of my pocket money on books. Funny you mention lemons - they are everywhere here but people still try to give them away. I was given so many last year i tried pickled lemons (as in fermented, Moroccan style). It has taken me nearly a year to build up the courage to eat them, but ive fallen in love with chopped pickled lemons on my okra stew with cous cous. I might try one inside our next roast chicken. Enjoy your book.

Sorry you are getting wet weather, over here it's actually been better over the last couple of weeks than it was in August.
    Enjoy your reading......and those lemons.

  6. I always keep fresh slices of lemon in the freezer for drinks, which cools as well as adding flavour.

  7. Yes, wet, wet, wet is no fun, and it's been cold down our way too - I am well over it, and the bug the family has shared with me....
I too loved the Famous Five books and read as many as I could lay my hands on at the local library in my childhood! I only ever owned one.
    Stay safe
    Blessings

Young people's books are fun! And so much more peaceful, than adult books. We all need as much Peace, as we can get, these days.

  11. I found you through another blogger who follows you (I'm visiting from the USA) ...and your first sentence was spot on for me. The days go too quickly, and at the end of each, I'm wishing for more hours in the day! Maybe my to-do list is just too long?! I'm looking forward to reading your older posts...have a good rest of the week! Mary

  13. When I was around nine years old I got quite sick and had to spend a few months on bed rest. A kind neigbour sent over a pile of Famous Five books that belonged to her son for me to read and I became a big fan during those long days. Those and Cherry Ames Nurse mysteries kept me entertained. No TV then.

  14. It's been wet, wet, wet here too, Margaret. Great weather for staying home and thinking of what to do with all the lemons - and grapefruit. I've pickled some but hadn't thought of dehydrating. Will give that a go next week. Enjoy your Famous Five!
