Christmas Shopping - Done!

When I woke up this morning I really had no intention of going out to the shops, but I changed my mind while eating breakfast.  A woman is allowed to do that!

I visited one department store with the idea of having a look at what was available for Christmas presents for my grandchildren, and ended up buying almost everything I wanted.  A visit to the supermarket and I have completed my shopping, except for wrapping paper.

This beautiful tree was erected in downtown Flagstaff, AZ, for Xmas 2018

I purchased nothing very expensive, just a few little things that hopefully will add joy to the day and not pander to avarice (it saddens me that so many folk seem to place more importance on getting than giving).

I gave up buying expensive presents many many years ago (in fact, for several years I never even observed Christmas), and still feel that too much emphasis is put on the commercial side of what is really meant to be a religious festival.

I also bought a small artificial Christmas tree for my room and will decorate that in the next few weeks.

Have a happy day 😊

Margaret.

  2. You made me giggle with "a woman is allowed that"! Please meet my Brother some time! The most female guy I am so proud of.

I also asked what or if the Nieces have a wish for. "Still time to go", he answered, "I´ll ask the girls", he said. I´ve heard not a thing so far.
But he sent me a pic of Big Niece reading "my Mum´s book" to her little Sister. Bliss. That was my Christmas pressie.

  3. The weather has been so dull and grey here that I can't seem to get into a Christmas mood, but it sounds like you are right ready. I must try harder!
    Hope your day was good

  5. Christmas has become abominable in so many ways. If it was abandoned totally it would be fine with me. We paid lip service to it when the grandchildren were small, but now it passes us by with barely a hint that it is there. At least this year, due to COVID, I won't have to listen to the eternal drone of Christmas music being piped through every store. Thank you COVID!!

    1. As I said, for several years I never observed Christmas and I must say it was rather nice not to be caught up in all the hype. Now I enjoy the family-together aspect the most.

  8. Our lockdown has been extended till Dec 14th but shops selling xmas stuff can reopen this Monday. Im very happy about that. I dont want to buy anything and I will probably only go down into town a couple of times before xmas but I just want to see some xmas glitter and maybe get a mug with santa on it, and a something small and smelly for my grandaughters.
I want a bit of normality even if it is just piped music and tatty deco

  9. You *knew* it was the day to go shop!!!!!!

Agree, on the Drive to Buy Buy Buy. And fear it is even worse, this year. "It's being a rotten year, so let's "blow-our-money" on GIFTS. -sigh-

Love it that you got the little tree! Sweet pick-up, for you, you, you!!!!!

  10. A few years ago we decided to quit exchanging gifts with our grown children and grands.Only the youngest got gifts. The grown-ups all have what they want/need anyway. This simplified Christmas for us and we love it. I love the family togetherness although it will be less so this year. Still, I like to decorate, bake special things and listen to Christmas carols.

  11. I am almost done with Christmad, too. I don't have many to buy for. I put up.our scraggly tree the first part of the week and put out the nativity set prior to that. And I have a stocking a friend made for me that is priceless.

  14. Oh Margaret, I bet you had fun out shopping. Finding everything you need and all the little gifts for everyone makes it a perfect shopping day. I just want to buy a little something for my children and grandchildren and special friends. It's a shame but I get angry every Christmas trying to get it through my husband's head...Christmas is about GIVING. His thinking is, they probably won't get us anything, why should we buy them something. :( I probably shouldn't post this, but I'm going to. He is a good man...just doesn't get it about Christmas. :) So glad you had fun shopping.
