A Blustery Wednesday

Today we are experiencing a strong blustery south-westerly wind.  The sort of wind that blows your hair all over your face, makes bits of paper rubbish fly up and down the street, and slams car doors when you are trying to load your groceries into the said vehicle.

It is playing havoc with our garden, tearing off petals and knocking over flowers.  Even the pets have gone a bit silly, spooking at each other and jumping at their shadows.

Thankfully the skies are mostly blue, although there are quite a few clouds around as well.  I felt sorry for the hawk who was trying to fly overhead, as he was quite obviously being buffeted around in the wind (sorry, I couldn’t get him into the photo).

Yesterday was rather wet, so I put off my shopping until this morning.  On a whim, I visited a garden centre and found a fancy-leaf pelargonium (commonly called geraniums) that I have been wanting for one of my pots.

This one is called Mrs Pollock, an heirloom variety that dates back to 1858,  and has scarlet flowers to go with its multi-coloured leaves.

Driving down the main road, I noticed that all the trees are covered with a coating of vibrant green, as new growth bursts forth from the bare branches.

Spring has definitely arrived 😊

Margaret.

  3. Just as spring is arriving with you, fall is inexorably encroaching on us. Yesterday morning, at first light, the temperature was 2 degrees. No frost yet, but it won't be long.

  4. Ahhh...the leaves beginning to appear. Love that time of year. The plant has gorgeous leaves too. I’ve never seen such variety. We almost blew away on the boardwalk this morning. Wind is a common visitor here.

  5. Wow! That is a blustery day, for sure!!!! Ah la "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day"! :-)

What a beautiful geranium that is going to be!!!

Wondering, do you still have to wear masks, in public? As we do...

Happy Spring!!!!!!!!!! As we deepen into Autumn....

    1. I forgot to answer your query about face masks. We are required to have "face coverings" (of any description, as long as they cover the mouth and nose) when on public transport, but otherwise they are only optional. However, if we reached the numbers of positive cases like many other countries have then we will probably be told to always wear them.

    1. Where we live (in the upper North Island) our climate is quite temperate and we seldom have freezing cold temperatures and never lots of snow.

  7. I love your blue sky and summery clouds! Too bad about the blustery wind though.
I finally gave up on my Geranium which had the same pretty leaves as yours but refused to bloom. I had it in the South window and did all I could to encourage it to bloom but no. So I've put it outside and will see if it is happier there. Of course once it freezes that will be the end of it anyway. I hope your new one does well and blooms as it should.

    1. We will see if my one manages to flower or not - I better talk to it and tell it what happens to sulky plants that won't flower :))

  8. The wind sounds like our spring. I sure do love a blue, blue sky. Great that you found a geranium that you were wanting. I hope it grows good for you.

  10. YEs, yesterday was windy - I planted out some marigolds today, to fill in some blanks in (former) flower beds that I have used for vegetables for the past few years - they had finished cropping, so I filled in the blanks :). Pelagoniums don't survive winter here, a tad too cold..
    Stay safe
    Blessings
