Breakfast Muesli

Everyone has their preferred food to have for breakfast, and one of mine is homemade muesli.  I have tried out various recipes over the years, recording each of them in my recipe book, and this morning I made up my current favourite.



I call it simply Breakfast Muesli and it involves placing into a large bowl 4 cups rolled oat flakes, ½ cup shredded desiccated coconut, 3 tablespoons each of pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, and ½ cup of dried cranberries(or other dried fruit).



Mix it all together with a large spoon and then store in an airtight container.

I use about ½ cup per serving, adding milk, yoghurt, fresh fruit etc. (basically, whatever you fancy – I often just pour hot water over mine and add a sliced kiwifruit).  If I intend to have a piece of toast after my cereal, then I only use ¼ cup.


  

Our weather is changeable today.  It began with a mostly blue sky but now, after lunch, the clouds are moving in from the west and the day has become decidedly duller.

  1. That sounds a great muesli - I make up a plate of Bercher type muesli each evening that soaks and fluffs up overnight. We started with a frost and ended with cloud down here, and I gather it clouded over early. I was in Hamilton today and noticed the changeable weather while I was there, too... At least we got some sunshine in the middle of the day! Love your photo of the clouds!

  2. I still have cheap yoghurt best before end of Feburary (this year) and it still looks good.
    Frozen banana, cinammon, chia seeds... guess I´ll give it a go!
    "Best before" does not mean it´s bad when not wobbly, right?

    1. I like this recipe because you can vary the spice and the dried fruit and end up with something that tastes completely different.

  7. Great to know what you will have for breakfast. The figuring out, what we will eat, is the worst part. lol

    We seem to have both sun and clouds today, here also. (Upper North East of the United States of America) But it is not as hot/humid and for that, I'm very glad.

    1. Mostly my breakfasts are pretty much the same although I do like to change around sometimes. I can struggle sometimes though, when trying to decide what to have for my other meals :)

  8. I've been making something similar of late...but I toast (with a tiny bit of oil) them up in my large wok ... not everything but the parts that will "toast" - and I just had to make up a new supply this morning.

  9. That sounds really good. I have a boring breakfast of 1/3 cup Grapenuts and 1/3 cup 2% milk every morning...then I am hungry again around 10:00.

  10. Our breakfasts are just oatmeal with cinnamon and a bit of vanilla almond milk . We don't change it up much, except maybe have a banana on the side sometimes. Your clouds are awesome! We have quite the variations in skies here in Kansas, I love to take sunset photos. I have something like a thousand on my flashdrive lol. Jerry says I need to print them and put into a scrapbook, which I may do someday. Be blessed, Margaret!

  11. I haven;t tried Muesli yet but reading your recipe and preparation signals me that it is something yummy and healthy at the same time! I have seen some muesli on the Australian section of some groceries here and I guess I have to try it soon. Breakfast, my favorite meal! Weather they be pancakes or waffles or the traditional Filipino garlic fried rice, I will always eat breakfast meals any time of the day with glee! Happy Weekend dear Margaret!
