The Day Is Gone

My paternal grandparents when they married in 1921

It is amazing how fast a day can disappear when you are engrossed in a project.  Here it is, almost time to prepare dinner, and the day has simply gone.

It was raining this morning so I did what had to be done around the house and then thought I would spend just a little while on the computer.

I have a lot of family history notes that I am trying to organize into book form.  I did stop for a bite to eat at lunchtime, but apart from that I haven’t left my computer all day.

The day is still grey and not very inspiring, so it was probably not a bad way to spend my day – but it means nothing interesting to write about today J

I hope your day has been more interesting!
Margaret.

  1. I find time is flying more than usual at the moment. Lucky you if you got a reasonable amount of rain.

    1. At least when time is flying by, you don't have time to be bored in lock-down! Am hoping you have had some of the rain we got this morning.

  2. Good on you for writing about the family history. All my family were writers, on both sides and I have memoirs to read which are fascinating. I wonder if my greek grandchildren will understand it all, the gold rush, the war years, the immigration from England. Our grandparents and great grandparents were all part of the history of a young country

    1. I also have some family memoirs that were passed down to me. Perhaps we should be writing our own to pass on to future generations?

  3. I've been trying to organize a family history book for a while now. But I'm finding out that there were quite a lot of my ancestors who told better stories than they lived. When comparing their stories with the facts of their lives, it doesn't quite add up. Like one who claimed to remember things from her passage from England to the US only to learn that she happened to be 8 months old at the time. But the stories she told were so good.

    1. Oh, I know what you mean! I found one lady who claimed to have lived in a big house (she even had a photo) but in reality she hadn't. I've also uncovered secrets that ancestors tried to cover up. It is so exciting, like a treasure hunt :)

    1. Hello Neermala. Our lock-down is going to be reviewed next week, and hopefully the government will be able to lift some of our restrictions then. Stay safe :)

Glad he left his own country when he was a teener and started a new life here in the Philippines, if not, I won't be here responding to your beautiful post! Stay safe and happy Margaret!

  6. I love your photo of your grand parents, I love the painted on colours, I have a baby photo done in the same style. It's raining here, not heavy, but I will take any rain, my garden is very thirsty.

    1. It is intriguing the way they painted their photos, it must have been quite a skill to do. They have a romanticism about them that colour photos don't have.

    1. When I first started, I used to spend hours in the library researching - it is so much easier now to do it online!

    1. Thank-you Rose. She was always very interested in her appearance, even when quite elderly.

  11. Your grandmother certainly had a gleam in her eye. Were you fortunate enough to get to know her?
It's been a very busy day here. We finally found a place that sold the roses we were looking for so immediately drove out to find the place and buy the 5 they had left that were not white ( I have 2 nice white ones that survived the great cull last year). In the afternoon we dug the holes and planted them.
It's been a cooler day here too after a week of glorious sunshine. Keep well!

    1. I did get to know her, really well. She lived until she was 93 years old. My grandfather died when my father was only four months old, so never knew him at all. The roses sound lovely :)
