A Few Tears

Today has been a sadder day than normal, for me anyway.

It began with news that a much-loved pet had died.  Biscuit was 17 years old, a sibling of my dearest Taffy that had brought so much joy into our lives for such a short period of time in 2004.

Biscuit has passed away “peacefully underneath the grapevine” and has been laid to rest beneath some feijoa trees.

The weather today has been dull and grey, overcast with frequent showers and much colder than we have had it before.  We lit a fire last night, the first for the year – it was more for comfort than needing warmth, as we could have survived without it.  However, it was nice to see its cheery glow and our old cat, 15 year old Teenie, loved it.  She sprawled out in front of the fire like she was in heaven.

Then, this afternoon, I watched Andrea Bocelli singing on Easter Sunday in Milan, Italy (look up “Andrea Bocelli: Music For Hope – Live From Duomo di Milano” on YouTube).

It brought me to tears.

Humanity is able to build great cities and huge beautiful buildings, to develop incredible cultures and make amazing discoveries and create so many inventions – yet it is brought to its knees because of a virus.

A simple disease that has inflicted all of mankind.  Nature continues on all around us, unaffected by our sorrow and our fears.  It makes me feel like our species is so insignificant yet we think we are so great.

That is why I cried.

Please be safe everyone,
Margaret xx

  2. Margaret I am very saddened by the news about Biscuit, She looks so beautiful and surely will be forever remembered by her loved ones. Your words about great cities and how in an instant can be brought down is very true and gave me big reflections. Andrea Bocelli is one of my heroes and his music both soothes me and gives me a lot of hope. One of my favorites of his is Mille Lune Mille Onde, That is a very beautiful song. Sending you hugs from the Philippines!

  4. Rest in peace Biscuit.
Andrea Bocelli is shown quite often here on our tv, singing for Italy. His voice is magnificent.
He's not the only one either. There are quite a few Italian voices booming out from balconies with great voices and even greater emotion

  5. Oh. I am so sorry to hear this. Maybe it´s a good thing after all that Hubby wants no cat.
I remember when my mouse died, it was awful. She was a Granma with 2 1/2 years, but still... "underneath the grapevine" sounds helpful, though.
    Big hugs from here!!

  7. So sad for you, our cats are always so special to us. I love this post, I think you are correct so many people feel we are superior to other life forms on our planet, an yet Nature is showing she can carry on without us, whilst we all hide she blooms. I love the story from a town in Wales, it nestles in the shadow of Great Orm, a mountain, and whilst the people stay inside the mountain goats come into the town and into gardens.

  9. Humanity is capable of murdering six million Jews, man, woman and child, humanity is capable of incinerating entire cities and slaughtering all their inhabitants, humanity is capable of building weapons to destroy us all, humanity is capable of watching little children starve and erecting fences to bar them entry to food and shelter, humanity soils the only home in which we live. We are not great; we only think we are. In the grand scheme of nature we are no more important than a blade of grass. A good pandemic is long overdue.

  17. I am sorry for the loss of Biscuit...It surely does hurt. Right now I cannot listen to A. Bocceli...I do not want to get started crying. And his voice can do that to me anyway, any time. Shoot, sometimes just a few notes from an instrument send me to tears...is that not crazy? And that was happening before this virus!
